2-week pre-op diet....ugh!

Recommended Posts

So, I am supposed to start my pre-op diet today, but I can't stop eating! I am totally psyching myself out right now. Anyone else have trouble starting their diet? I feel like a smoker that is quitting cold-turkey. I never realized how strong my mental addiction to food is. Oye!

I'm on my last day of my first 2 week liquid diet. I go to the dietician tomorrow. I can say I have cheated some, but nothing huge.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get through those first few days?

The first couple days are the hardest, I've cheated a few times. Keep your mind busy with something tedious, like needle work or beading or math. Lol That's how I'm doing it. Also, I've been chewing the hell out of SF gum and pops. Change your routine, At work I used to go to lunch in the Break room, now I've been sitting outside drinking my shake, enjoying the sun.

We just had a cold front blow in yesterday, I was enjoying the 70's and 80's. Now we're in the 40's, Texas can't make up her mind! Lol

But the point still stands, switch up your routine.

What did u eat when you cheated?

I gave in to a few fries my insincitive friends brought home. I had a bite of a taco. And a cookie. I felt like shit each time I cheated. But have been good since.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
