I had surgery this morning. Post op was really hard for me. Got to my room and things slowly started getting better. I took about 5 laps throughout the day in the halls. The only thing that is bugging me to no end is the anesthesia. I've been burping a lot, but it seems like every time I get back to my room from a walk, I have terrible neck pain from the gas. To me it's about 100% more painful than my stomach. Anyone have any ideas? The last attack was the worst. Will it get better soon?

WOW congrats!!! So happy to read an update from someone who had surgery today. I am going on Weds.

I have problems with anesthesia. They give me a lot of meds for it. I have never had gas pains so IDK what that's like. I am sorry. But I am so happy to read of someone's surgery today!!! Best recovery to you!

Congrats on your surgery!!! Hope everything gets better with your pains. Try to see if they will give u a heating pad. I had one on my shoulder and neck after my gall bladder surgery and it helped so much. The nurses told me to use it. I didn't have the pains with my rny but was prepared for it anyway. I agree they are horrible and can be worse then the actual surgery. Good luck and hope that helps.

I was doing well all day yesterday, but then I started draining like crazy. I had to have 2 blood transfusions. My doctor said it was because all of the blood thinners during surgery. I feel a little better this morning, but I'm dying for some water! Hopefully tonight!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
