Typical Stage 1 Meal Plan....

Recommended Posts

Just had surgery on the 11th...I am on 2 week Clear Liquids diet...to avoid dehydration, what are some typical daily meal plans. Because I'm not hungry, I'm not sure if I'm eating enough.

I would set up a timer to sip every 10 minutes, drank all kinds of allowed juice, diluted if too sweet, gatorade and "ate" low sodium fat free beef broth and low fat chicken broth. Are you allowed shakes? I wasn't allowed shakes or Soups until my second stage which was 10 days later.

I drink 1/4 cup of liquid Protein (Isopure) on the hour, and I sip on Fruit2O Water every 15 mins after or I suck on crushed ice.

I loved Water before surgery & now it tastes horrible which is why I'm hooked on Fruit2O. Crushed ice is a must as I'm still battling severe nausea. I'm on anti-nausea med, but the smell of food (that my family) eats turns my stomach.

I also took in sugar free Popsicles, strained Soup, broth, Water, crystal light and Protein Drink. You are not going to be hungry. Just sip on liquid all day long and I just usually prepared 1/4 of soup or something at lunch and supper.

For each "meal" of the day, I have 8oz of Protein drink (isopure), and then a 16 oz bottle of Water or crystal light. I make sure to finish both before the next meal time. You'll end up with 72 oz with Breakfast, lunch and dinner.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
