New here and almost 4 months into this journey

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

I am new here, but am 4 months into this journey of living with gastric bypass. I had my surgery on Dec. 20th, 2012 with Dr. Castro at Methodist Dallas. It has been a great experience so far! I am down 63 pounds and counting. My surgery was a revision from a very old type of band called a Molina band( named after the doctor that placed them) I have had no complications so far. I do battle head hunger more than I care too, but he didn't operate on my mind!!!! I have attended a couple of face to face support meetings, but am looking for as much support as possible to make this journey work for me! I am looking forward to hanging out here and learning from others!

Congrats on the weight loss. I had my surgery December 17th and I'm down 72 lbs since surgery and 82 lbs total. I agree with you, the head hunger is tough. Its tough when food was our best friend for so long and now we can't rely on that food for comfort. You've come to a great place here for support. Welcome!!! :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
