Great Restaurant Hint: Get an Add-On!

Recommended Posts

Hi! Last Saturday, at 4 weeks post surgery, I went out to Celebrate a dear friend's birthday at really great restaurant that I loved pre-surgery. I looked at all the appetizer and Soup options and none of them were what I wanted. (And since I eat so little, I only eat what I want that is high in protein). So, I asked the waiter if there was any way I could just get a couple of scallops-- I told him that I had recently had abdominal surgery and was restricted on what I could eat. Of course, he replied--I can get you an "add-on" of scallops. It was delicious-- three beautiful scallops with a sauce on the side. I ate two and gave one to a friend. The cost: $6. I had no little containers to take home and leave in the car or the fridge, I felt like I was a real part of the group and called no attention to myself. I even had a little taste of dessert--just a spoonful.

Thinking that maybe this was a fluke and that I couldn't do this anywhere else, I checked with an expert: my son who is a chef at a resort and who has worked in a number of high-end restaurants in the north east. He said that add-ons are routinely done, and that anyone can ask for one. Generally they things such as shrimp, or scallops, or clams or a lobster tail, but that one could ask for an add-on of anything on the menu that could be available in smaller portions.

Yahoo! I am excited that I can go out and be able to eat what I need to eat and not have to carry around food. When we go out, it is often before a show or a movie, and to me the idea of carrying leftovers to a show is not so fun.

I'm actually very nervous about this....

not so much about the food, but about the waste of money....

I am only 1 wk out, but in 5-6 weeks, political events begin for me which means being around a lot of food and lunch/dinner events. I cannot decline many of them but just feel as if so much will be a waste. I do plan to bring left over home when possible, though it's a bit tacky to do so.

I need a FULL LIST of what I CAN eat. Luckily, I have been a fickle easter much of my life and I don't endulge in sweets and carbs....

I do look forward to the meats.

I do not look forward to the money though :(

Ask your waiter for an "add on" because you will only get a small serving of whatever Protein you want that they have. My son the chef said add ins are generally scallops or shrimp or lobster. Or, he said, you can always ask the waiter if they can accommodate you.

The add ons are cheap. And no leftover boxes to carry and leave somewhere.

I was 4 weeks out when I ordered scallops. I find things like scallops or a broiled crab cake or meatballs to be my best choice now at nearly 8 weeks out.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
