Ethics question about Size and presense

Recommended Posts

I am curious of your experience in this.... and it pertains to women, though men are welcome to respond

For those who have lost weight and are BELOW a size 12 for example:

What is your expereince when you walk into a room, or an event, or somewhere with a crowd?

Do you think people noticed you MORE when you were larger, or do you think people notice you more NOW that you are smaller and perhaps fit into the more normal size range?

Now I know this is about confidence for some..... and for some it could be about <physical> beauty.

Some might feel they stand out MORE as a smaller person and they like that, and some might feel they blend in more and they like that.

I am having this emotional fear that when I drop this weight, I am going to get "lost in the crowd". I wonder if my size has added "presence" to me that my personality wouldn't ordinarily convey.....

On the contrast, I wonder if I will look sooooo fabulous that people will notice me everywhere. LOL

So what has your experience been???

I don't know if its my confidence or what but I find people ... Strangers... Accept me more as a smaller person then as a larger person. People converse more... Or maybe it's me becoming more outgoing. It's a tough question to answer. Regardless I feel better... Happier which probably makes me more approachable.

I was just discussing this with my mom today. I'm 2 months post op and in a size 16 down from a 22-24. When I was bigger I felt I stood out more for being fat. I still have a long way to go until my goal, but I already feel more comfortable in public and feel like I blend in with the "normal" people and feel so much better about that. I feel like I don't stand out for my size anymore and it's such a relief.

Ugh! Silly phone!

When I'm with people who knew me when I was my biggest, I feel like I stand out, because they are complimenting me. Otherwise, I feel like I fit in way better than before, and it feels good.

Girl, its probably just my ego..but now that I'm in size 8/6, I get doors opened for me. I get men wanting me to talk to me while driving. I've been told by woman that they wish they were my size. I can't believe someone wants to be my size. LOL. At work i have always been taken seiously but it seems to be more intense now. I feel really pretty! by the way i'm 50!

At the risk of sounding vain, I have that now at my weight :) And I don't want to lose it when I am 70 lbs less. I am pre-op w/ a large weight loss sz 18 today. I will actually be 199 lbs by my surgery on Weds. I AM a firery redhead. LOL. I have become rather subdued lately due to my weight steadily rising. My fear is that I will lose my presence when I am smaller.

Its all about confidence also I've been smaller most of my life between an 8 and 10 and at my largest a 24. I'm very confident and sexy smaller or larger and either way I have a great shape and men notice that. I knew men who didn't necessarily didn't like bigger women and thought I was sexy as hell. So carry urself with confidence. And u won't get lost in the room if u look and feel good. Presence is everything. When u loose weight don't get super small either l ole a 4 and under. Everyone is not meant to be that size. Hope this helps.

I am actually scared that I will not be able to stop the weight loss. I do not want to go below a sz 6/7. There are people on here who had goals of sz 8/10 and are now sz 2.

Thanks for the responses and kind words!!!

You know I seen some sexy juicy big woman. They dress nice & walk like they all that. Why not. Being large isn't for everyone. Like you said if you got it you got it. I love being tiny. I was able to stuck my hand I between the tub & sink to take something that been there for years seriously no lie. It's finally clean & scrub down.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
