It went really well. I don't have any required prerequisites for the surgery. Just my pyc eval and approvel from my insurance and then ill get my date! All the doctors did was go over the surgery and how its done and they weight and measured me. Pretty simple and to the point. He said it would have been more extensive except I don't have any health conditions tied to being over weight and my bmi was under 60 so I don't have to lose any weight. :) I'm sooooo excited!!!!!!

I had my first appointment yesterday too. I have no health issues (besides being obese, of course!). My surgeon wants 6 months supervised diet and exercise program - monitored by my PCP. Psych eval, nutrition consult and I gotta lose 20 lbs before the 6 months is up.

Yay us!

My first appointment is this next friday. I am so excited. I am still six months from surgery, cause I have to do the six month diet. Hopefully the time will go buy fairly quickly. I do have health conditions from being obese. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, and PCOS. I can't wait for my healthier lifestyle.

My first appointment is Friday also. I have to do a 3 month diet from what I hear, I guess I'll find out everything I need to know on Friday. Good luck at your appointment.

Thanks! We should keep each other posted on how everything is going. I know I am getting labs done, chest xray, EKG, seeing the doctor and dietitian. Not sure what else, I know they set aside four hours for your initial appointment. What sucks is I have to go fasting and my appointment isn't until 1130.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
