heather200202 73 Posted April 11, 2013 I've never stopped using them. I have used a straw since i was allowed to drink the day after surgery. Everyone is different. You can try and see if you have a issue or not.
jerz 251 Posted April 12, 2013 If you find that using them gives you gas or causes excess belching, don't use them. I use them, for some reason it makes it easier for me to drink.
pointer 92 Posted April 12, 2013 Were not supposed to use them I do once in a while no problems for me.
michellenc 3 Posted April 12, 2013 I used it once and that first sip I had pain and I took the straw and threw it away.
pookybear 284 Posted April 12, 2013 My book says we should avoid them because its harder to control your intake with them, doesn't mention air. I use them anyway. Not all the time, but I don't avoid them.

Chefchrisp 12 Posted April 12, 2013 My doctor used to tell people no drinking from a straw (like 2+ years ago) because of gas/air. They have since found that it doesn't really make a difference and they now allow them.

Lou:) 110 Posted April 16, 2013 I was told not to because the air gets trapped in the stoma between your stomach and small intestine. They said over time, the air will stretch that out and will cause less and less restriction and eventual weight regain.
hockeymumzie 181 Posted April 16, 2013 For once I'm following the teachers rules, no more straws for me. Sent from my DROID RAZR MAXX using RNYTalk
Lou:) 110 Posted April 16, 2013 I had the lap band for two years prior to my revision a week ago to rny so I am already used to not using straws from that because it would cause pain with the band. Its not that big of a lifestyle change to just not use a straw.
