So, maybe I've been super bad. I'm not sure. My hospital gave me apple juice and it wasn't diluted. So I've not been diluting it since I had no issues and it's super yummy. I drank 8 oz of it this morning. I'm not meeting calorie requirements yet...so I thought why not. But now reading through my doctors instructions and searching the internet...all the sites say to dilute it.

Um, have I done something bad. Is there a reason I have to dilute? I'll start...I just figured it had to be okay...you know since the RNs on a Bariatric floor gave it to me.

Then again, one of my nurses really sucked. So who knows?

I don't notice any nausea or upset stomach after the juice. What's the point of diluting?

I can tolerate undiluted juices also. They recommend diluting because of the sugar content. I try to stay away from juices because of the calories and sugar but i dont think it would be a big deal every now and then.

Yes, I think I'm giving up the juice. Honestly, I didn't notice the diluted part before. I've been on drugs and just kind of trying to get through it. I was just drinking it cuz that's how the hospital gave it to me. If I drink it, and I probably won't cuz diluted juice sounds shaz nasty, I'll dilute it.

It makes sense due to sugar content. It doesn't bother me, but it's probably best not to. :) Thanks ya'll. Just trying to work through this! :)

This is what my surgeon gave me.

juice Rule: If the juice has less than 15g of carbs per 8 oz, you do not have to dilute. If the juice has more than 15g per oz., dilute with equal parts of Water. Do not drink more than 4 oz. of either juice per hour.

My nurses sucked too. They gave me soda, ice cream and crackers. Total dingbats.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
