Thank you all SO MUCH for responding. I've been stressed out about this for 11 days now. I make little tic marks on paper for each ounce I drink. Then I count them. It doesn't hurt to drink...I'm just going to sip and hope that within a few weeks it gets better. I'll talk to my surgeon at the post op appointment

I was cleared to drink as much as I want. They put no restrictions on liquids. Good luck to you. :)

right after surgery?

That I could do. This other though. "each medicine cup (1 ounce) should take 15 minutes"

Ya'll it's seriously driving me insane.

I trust my doc and my nut....but how is it possible? I am not setting alarms for Water during sleep. So not going to happen.

Those were the rules when I was in the hospital but once I discharged I was told that I could drink water all day with no restrictions on quantity/time. Once I started eating mushy foods I had to start the 45 minute wait to drink again, but that was and is the only restriction. It is probably worth calling your doc's office and inquiring what the rules really are.

right after surgery?

Sorry no not right after surgery. When I was released to go home I could drink as much as I wanted. After surgery I was allowed (after my leak test) 1oz every 30 minutes, then it increased to 1oz every 15 minutes.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
