I'm off to bed...but I'm frustrated. I'm 10 days out. 9 if you don't count my day of surgery and my doc says to only drink 4 ounces an hour. AN HOUR. But to get in 48-64 ounces a day. HOW.

Think about it logically. It would take me 16 hours to get in 64 ounces and that's ONLY if I didn't eat. You know...the whole 30 before and 30 after thing. So, give up sleep?

Now I've met the 48 one a couple of times. Almost. That's only 12 hours...and it leaves room for eating! Yay! But I have a slight headache. Most all my headaches my entire life have been born of dehydration. Most of the time, I count in my Protein Drinks as a Water source and they fall under my ounces.

My life has become sipping water. The bad thing...I don't feel uncomfortable drinking it. I don't feel sick or in pain. I feel I could drink way more than 4 ounces an hour. in fact...I can drink an ounce in less than 5 minutes but I'm so super worried I'll rupture a stitch or stretch out my pouch. Last time I talked to him he said FIVE OUNCES AN HOUR TOPS.

I have a drinking problem. HOW DO YOU ALL DO IT.

Are you secretly drinking more at a time? Or do you just time everything REALLY REALLY WELL? Cuz I have to say....if I take a nap, I'm not hitting my water quota. I'm staying up late at night to get in the 40 ounce mark!

Seriously. This is stressing me out.

My aunt had hers done in 03. She would set an alarm through the night. I don't know how she truely got any sleep waking up every hour to sip on what ever Fluid for fifteen minutes. Ugh. Something I'm going to be afraid of too, I always have a drink in hand. Constantly drinking Water so its a habbit I'm going to have to learn to break till I'm all healed. Cause if I have it in front of me ill drink it. And I'm a chugger :(

That I could do. This other though. "each medicine cup (1 ounce) should take 15 minutes"

Ya'll it's seriously driving me insane.

I trust my doc and my nut....but how is it possible? I am not setting alarms for Water during sleep. So not going to happen.

I cried my first 2 weeks because it seemed impossible to drink that much Fluid in a day. It will get better. Now I can drink more and quicker. If I'm adamant I can drink a bottle Water in 15 mins. Remember the days when we could slam a bottle of water in just a minute! Lol

I know everyone's plan is different but my doctor and nut want me to sip sip sip all the time and if we were not meeting liquid intake they wanted up to substitute any actual meals with a liquid Meal Replacement. My Protein Shakes did count as liquid intake too. I can drink more then 4-5oz in an hour and always could. When you've had to much at once you will know and it's a miserable feeling. It gets easier as time goes on.

Nella, I'm wondering the same thing. I feel like I can drink as much as I want without getting full or sick. It seems to just go right through me. I'm still on Clear Liquids and I can eat sugar-free popsicles one after the other. It makes me really nervous, but I keep telling myself it's good to have lots of liquid.

Here's what my doctor's orders say word for word:

"Drink a minimum of 64 Fluid ounces of Water a day. It is OK to drink steadily throughout the day, but if you feel full or nauseated you are drinking too fast."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
