AuntDot 0 Posted February 15, 2007 I just wanted to sign in and say that is have seen some very helpful people on this message board threads. I am a 20 year diabetic using insulin and oral meds. I also have high bloodpressure and degenerative disc disease. I'm looking forward to losing the first two conditions some time after my surgery. I will be having my first visit with Dr. Spivak here in Houston next Saturday. I'm sure I will back before and after my Lap-Band procedure. I thank you all for being willing to share. :clap2: I hope down the line my experiences will help someone as well.
Jimboss 0 Posted February 15, 2007 Well AuntDot, I'd like to wish you luck on your banding procedure. You are right...you'll find a lot of helpful advice here and also find that this is a great web site to find the support we all need! I would like to let you know that I too am diabetic. I was banded in October of 2006 and I've lost close to 50 pounds so far, which is great...but as far as my diabetes? Hmmmmm. I've gone from using over 200 units of insulin daily to using less than 60 units. I found that once I started to exercise that my insulin useage really started to drop drastically. Exercise sucked when I first started but now I seem hooked on it! Initially I could do only 3 minutes on a treadmill. Today I'm here to tell you that I consistently do 30-35 minutes and I can still breathe when I done! So again, good luck and I'm sure you find like most of us that this is going to be the best decision you've ever made in your life. Best Wishes..........Jimboss
