My surgeon and nutritionist say stay away from Protein shots. I can't think at this moment what specific ingredient is in this that we shouldn't have. If I read the label I would know. But off the top of my head I don't remember.

Plus we only absorb 30grams of Protein (max) at a time.

If I remember the ingredient I will get back to you. If someone can help me remember that would be great too.

Yeah, they have them at Walmart. That's not whey isolate. (i don't think. I think that's why I skipped them)

The Ingredients are "Water, Complete Protein Matrix (Ids Proprietary Blend of collagen Protein Isolate, whey Protein Isolate, Casein Protein Isolate), Phosphoric Acid, Natural And Artificial Flavor, Sucralose, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Acesulfame Potassium, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Red 40, Calcium Disodium Salt. Contains: Milk." Idk what percentages are, but "blend of collagen protein isolate" comes first, and whey protein isolate comes second. So Idk. It probably isn't really 48 grams that we can digest, but some. I'll ask my nutritionist.

Yup collagen is the bad stuff....would depend on how much whey....my guess is much collagen and little whey....that's just a guess!

Collagen Protein is an incomplete protein meaning that it does not have one or more of the nine essential amino acids. Essential because your body requires them but cannot synthesize them on its own. More importantly, collagen protein has a PDCAAS (Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score) score of 0.08 which means that it is virtually indigestible. All the protein in the world is useless if your body can't digest it. The Nutrition Labeling and Education Act requires that ingredients be listed in descending order of predominance and weight. So if collagen is listed first, it is the most predominant ingredient.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
