My surgeon allows 1 cup of coffee per day, it dehydrates your body. As small as our pouch is, we need all the liquid we can get in to hydrate the body.

My question was because I bought some crystal light grape individual packets for the 16 oz bottles. I just realized it says ENERGY caffeine energy and releasing B Vitamins. Is this ok or do you think I should stop??

The dehydration is one thing...but caffeine also blocks the absorption of Calcium, which I find even more worrisome. So if you drink caffeine items you need to time them and keep them away from your calcium supplements..

Don't take it. I had some of the strawberry ones actually drank almost all 16 ounces and it made me feel awful, jittery, heart flutters, I was anxious/nervous. It has 120 mg caffeine and other stuff in it and it took from 1230-9pm to feel better. I am a nurse and thought I was going to have to go to the ER for some valium. I also couldn't fall asleep that night until after 2 am. I gave the box away. I was almost 11 weeks out and couldn't tolerate it.

I was also told by my surgeon that caffeine can irritate the stomach lining and with a small pouch the regular amounts you find in a soda or one cup of coffee is to much. the amounts you find in some Decaf items is enough. The withdrawal headaches were enough to make me not go back mine lasted about a week wake up with a Migraine that lasted about an hour then would just go away. She also wanted her patients to go through this prior to surgery like she stated your going to go through enough without having to deal with withdrawal headaches on top of it.

Wow, well the funny thing is that nothing happened to me. I actually loved it and had no side effects. I will definitely put it off though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
