How about some NSVs!?!?

Recommended Posts

I don't know if this is an NSV or an SV, but I'd like everyone to Celebrate with me, by knowing that I completed the Spokefest Half-Century (50 mile bike ride in Spokane County WA) on September 7th! That was a huge accomplishment for me.

It started out as "friendly" competition with two co-workers (who haven't had bariatric surgery and are 13 and 17 years younger than me) and myself, riding bikes during our lunch hour, at the beginning of last summer.

Since then we each individually rode the Hiawatha Trail (in the north Idaho panhandle and Montana Bitterroot Mountains), one of us has been downhill mountain biking at the ski resorts nearby, and I rode around Lake Washington, both ways, once south and once north, the weekend before Spokefest.

Then all three of us did the Spokefest Half-Century together. We didn't do it for time or a public placing. We did it as a personal victory.

Since then I've also been riding from my home in to my office on in Spokane WA, a distance of 17 miles. So far I'm up to about 15 - 17 miles an hour by bicycle!

We still bike during our lunch hour, or run, or walk.

I'm simply amazed at the health improvements, (FINALLY!), that this decision to have the gastric bypass has given me!

Today is my first day back to school following surgery. I am sitting in a desk chair and my stomach is not touching the desk and I can see the chair between my legs!! I want to scream this to every person in the class but telling you guys is far less disruptive lol

I have a friend. She that girl that you think "wow she's so tiny." She is brining me clothes now. She brought me a shirt today, it was too big for her to be fair, but I thought" this will not fit me." It totally fits me. :) I'm still about 40lbs from being as small as she is, but it's pretty amazing because I always thought "I'll never be that small"

Went to a theme park yesterday, and got on my first roller coaster in more than 10 years (12 years to be exact!) fear of being told I didn't fit kept me off every ride for that long.

After the whole day my hubby was like just get on one already. I went alone! In fear of humiliation! And this ride was CRAZY!!! lol and my hubby recorded it! LOL I couldn't believe I fit! I couldn't believe I loved it! Me and hubby are planning a date night back so we can get on more.... Together:)

Surgery date 7/25/12

sometimes I feel as if my main goal is to ride the Harry Potter ride in universal studios Orlando.

Decided it was time to clean out the closet, all my clothes had started to drown me and I was putting off replacing items for as long as I could. Well now I'm within 38 lb of my goal weight I decided it was time to shop. OMG I am now in a PXL and some of the tops I bought were a Large. I've not been able to wear these size's since I was a teen. My hubby has also lost 85 lb and we had to replace his clothes to, he's gone from a 44 to a 32/34 waist and a 3XLT to a M to L top. I am currently wearing a size 10 Jean haven't done this since I was 18. We took 15 bags of clothes to the good will store as every item we had was way to big. :)

None scale Victory, meaning being able to get into smaller clothes, doing things that would take twice as long before, going for long walks without getting out of breath, taking the stairs two steps at a time. Those kind of things and more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
