I am a nurse and work in the hospital so I had to take six weeks off because of the lifting that I do. I wasn't able to take a shower until I went home (2 days post-op). I brushed my teeth every day and was up and around and doing great.

I shower after discharge. Wasn't aloud to do it in the hospital due to catheter & IV and I was dizzy so only limited walking but they did wash me up.

I'm happy I took 1 month off. My first week back to work was exhausting thank goodness only half day for 2 weeks. My lap bands were a breeze compared to this conversion surgery. I felt like a Mac truck hit me!. I'm two months out. My hubby won't do the surgery because I scared him with my recovery ordeal....

I am still in the pre-auth phase but I have a couple questions:

I was wondering how soon you can shower after surgery? I can cope with ANYTHING if I can only shower each morning.

How soon did you return to work? I'm planning on taking two weeks off. (I have four weeks sick time saved up).

I was able to shower when I got home from the hospital. I had surgery on Wednesday and was home by friday. I took 4 weeks off work only because My surgeon wouldn't let me go back sooner because I work as a phlebotomist at the hospital, and he knows how crazy my job could get. Depending on your job two weeks could be ok.

I am planning on only taking one week off. I work a desk job but it is also full time from home. How are most people feeling in week 2? Do you feel the need to lay down a lot and sleep or will I be okay sitting at my desk or should I plan to work from my bed or the couch?

I took 6 weeks of from work( and enjoyed every minute ) and I felt great it all depends on your surgeon ad how high impact and physical you are in your job. I work in a busy emergency room so I needed the 6 weeks off . I did well and showered when I got home.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
