So I am 21, 5'6", 338lbs, bmi/55.5. I have been considering rny since I was 16. I have been over weight since I can remember. I have been on and off diets since I was 11. I am blessed to not have any health issues from my weight...yet. I have come to be comftorable and confident in my own skin. I am married to my loving husband of three years, we have a son named jesse who will be two july 1st. I had a very hard life all through school, I was always depressed being made fun of took a toll on my during middle school. My mother had to pull me out of public school and home school me. I made the decision to enroll in public high school because I wanted the expirence and thought that the students would have grown up by then. The teasing lessened but never went away. I had very few friends and never had a boyfriend. It really helped me become who I am though, I honestly don't know who I would be if I hadn't of been strong and kept my head up. Anyways. I have had three family members have rny, all of which are so excited for me. A lot of my other family doesn't understand, especially my in-laws. They think the risks are to great and that I can do it on my own, but they don't know the struggle it is to be on a diet and work your butt off for six months only to lose 10-15 pounds. Then you go into a bout of depression and gain it all back, cause what do we do when we are sad? We eat, cause it makes us happy. Or it does me anyways. I am so ready and excited to take this next step in my life. I want to be able to keep up with my son most of all, I don't want to be the fat mom who can't go on the field trips cause she can't keep up. I want to take him to the fair and actually ride the rides with him. I am doing this for my future health and so I can be in my sons memories and have that much longer of a life. I have my first appoinment on Friday and I am driving three hours away from where I live cause they are the closest who take my insurance. Wish me luck!!!

I'm so excited. Five days till I go to my first appoinment. Do you know if a sleep study is a common requirement to have the rny?

I asked and i was told that the pulmonologist will decide if sleep study goes or not it depends on how you do on other studies so guess is like up to the md! You know they r all different and the insurance requirements as well, hope they do one for me cause i want to know if i have apnea cause my hubby says i snore like beast!!!! Lol!!

My younger brother has had it for years before we knew what it really was. I snor but not enough I think I have it. But we will see. If I need it I want to get it out of the way cause so far I have everything I need done. Unless they spring something else on me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
