So I'm on day 5 of my liquid diet. I've done great and haven't even had the urge to cheat. However, yesterday something caused to me to have the "hot trots" and it was really bad. Then this morning I weighed in and actually gained 2 pounds? I'm behaving but don't understand the gain? Especially as much as I "cleaned out" yesterday :-/ any thoughts?

I am on day 5 too, and have gained almost 2lbs as well! Makes no sense!! Grrr.... so frustrating!! I haven't had one bite of food since Sunday and I am gaining weight. How is this possible? Everything is sugar-free. Maybe more Water is needed due to high sodium with the broth?

Possibly- but I'm already drinking a gallon and half of Water a day! I don't think I can drink any more :-( maybe I'm drinking too much?

I just spoke with my Patient Advocate, and she said this is completely normal. She said that most likely there will be a few more days like this, and then we will see some weight drop off right before surgery. She said it is not substantial, but that not losing weight is normal because we are replacing those nutrients with heavy liquids like the shakes and lots and lots of Water. BUT she did warn that it will probably lead to some diarrhea in a day or two so to be careful where you at at. Lol.

How many shakes are you all drinking a day? I have been drinking three a day but yet still going to bed hungry? Should I be drinking more?

I could not keep down the Bariatric Advantage gross ones. They were thick and disgusting. I switched to Premier Protein shakes from Sam's Club and they taste just like chocolate milk with 30gms of Protein. I have been drinking 3 a day. But also having Sf Jello, broth, hot tea, SF popsicles, Water, crushed ice with sugar free Hawaiian Punch sprinkled on it like a snow cone. I feel full at the end of the day. The Premier drinks are not bad at all and they have a cap on them so I can reseal them.

That's great, I need to get on the broth so I can change it up I'm getting really sick of the Protein Shakes. I have not been a happy camper with not being able to eat solid foods. Im just glad my husband isn't here to witness it, but my poor parents are with me and supporting me and my dad is coaching me through everything because he had his gastric bypass 4 years ago and has maintained his weight (Very proud of him). But I am going to keep up with the 3 shakes a day and maybe a broth as substitute for dinner or lunch. thanks so much ladies :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
