The Journey to Awaken the (Th)Inner Me

Recommended Posts

I have been overweight since I was a child. I was a very curvy teenager, and I had no problem with that. My ideal size was about a 14-16 or so. I am 5"10' so it looms funny for me to be too skinny. I met my husband when I was 15, and a size 16. We were two peas in pod so we got hitched at 20. Then, after that, and we did all kinds of outdoor activities. We went hiking, fishing, camping, and the like. We did tons of traveling. It was great. Then there were issues with conceiving and I was diagnoses with Polysistic Ovaries and it really messed up my hormones. I started packing on weight really badly. Then, came the Migraines and the really bad thigh and leg pain and even use a CPAP. All of these pains and issues just caused me to become a recluse. I really packed on the weight then because I didn't want to go outside. Now, I take meds for everything from HBP, Diabetes, pain, high blood inflammation pain markers, sleeping pills, and tons of Migraine meds. I started the WLS journey on 2/22 and my insurance company was amazing. My surgeon got me in right away. I am worried about this clear liquid diet because all I want it shrimp I keep seeing on TV. I starving, but really wanting to push through. I was on another forum but there was no support or any responses. I just want this to be over with so I can move on to the phase where my work can pay off and weight drops.

On 2/22, I was 391

On 3/24, I was 377

On 4/2, I was 358

I feel I have made good progress, now I am just waiting for surgery on 4/15 @ 9. Thank you for any support you offer. It is appreciated.

I was surprised (yet, pretty happy) to know that taste buds change after the surgery. That is what got me in trouble in the first place. Lol! Wanting all of those foods that tasted good. I keep telling myself it is just around the corner, 10 more days til check-in.

Is that what it is? Is that y people get preggers so easily? And I've started to think I'm bipolar with the ups and downs in my mood.

What causes this?

I think the fat just releases all those hormones and your body just levels out. I have read that it boosts fertility, especially in PCOS sufferers. I am excited and scared about that. My husband and I have never had to think of birth control before since nothing was ever regular. That will be another new thing to deal with. I am thinking it would be very detrimental to get pregnant too soon as your body is still adjusting and can hardly accommodate for what you need. I think I read it needs to be at least 18 months post-op to be healthy for the baby. I am just wanting to get myself healthy first.

Hang in there! I just had surgery on weds. (3rd) and I have reduced pain Meds. to 1/2 pill instead of 2.

The pre-op liquid diet was a pain, but it really prepared me for post op. It will be here before you know it, and remember to walk as much as you can as it really helps you to heal.

Good luck!

Push through it will be so worth it. You are going to love taking less or no meds. And dropping those pounds feels awesome. I promise it will all be worth it. Good luck!

Thank you for the support! I am very excited and just want to get to the surgery already. I feel better with just the amount I have already lost, minus the starving due to the liquids but am pushing through. Eyes are on the prize!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
