My surgery is set for April 15th. My doctor put me on a two week pre op diet. Two meals substituted with a Protein Shake and one meal with 4oz of meat and half of a cup I veggies.

I'm one if those people who hear from others that 'I don't need the surgery'.

I thought I ate fine before, but now I'm going crazy! I never really at much during the day before, but was a night eater. In having the worst time stopping myself from eating more than what I'm allowed to with the diet. I'm afraid and embarrassed that if I'm having a bad time now that it will be torture after the 15th.

Maybe I just need some motivation

Ur body will stop u after the surgery. U will be happy to just get down liquids... Also speak to ur nutritionist for tips and see a therapist reg. most of us do this to gain perspective and control.

Believe me when I say this is the WORST of it. Stick to your Diet. YOU CAN DO IT!!! and you will be so much happier in the end. I remember I slept a lot during those days and sucked on ice chips. Try to keep Occupied go out for a walk or do something that does not remind you of fodd. YOU WILL BE SO HAPPY AT THE END OF IT. GOOD LUCK!! :)

Leah, You have not failed!! This is a long process and you are learning your new lifstyle. We all STRUGGLED! It is hard. Very hard. Dust yourself off and start again. Eating after surgery is easier in the sense you are less hungry and can't eat much. You do have sometime to retrain your brain but even at 4 1/2 months I am still struggling with 'picking' at food here and there. I try to log it all but I am still retraining my eating habits. You will be fine. Good luck and never be afriad to reach out for help.

I sat in ur same shoes except my Dr didn't make me do a pre op diet or detox. I had last supper syndrome it was so bad I spent probably $300 on take out the week prior to my surgery eating everything I enjoyed that I knew I couldn't have afterwards. Because of this after surgery I was shocked at my body. I'm glad ur surgeon is pushing this to give u some sense at what to expect. Just hang in and before u know it u will be looking back and thinking wow I can't believe that was me or I came this far. Its a psychological game don't let the food win..

Leah, the first couple days of the pre op diet are the hardest. It seems to get easier after 3-4 days. Are you able to eat sugar free Jello, sf popsicles, and diet snapple/crystal light? Those helped me feel more full. I also found that eating raw vegetables (baby carrots) filled me up more than cooked vegetables and all the crunching helped "trick" my brain into feeling satisfied. Post op I don't even feel hungry at all (1 week out). Good luck, you can do it!

You guys are an awesome confidence boost! Just what I needed. I'm allowed sugar free drinks. I think I've drank my weight in crystal light and propel in three days. I am doing a little better today with cravings. 12 more days!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
