I am going on 4 wks post op. I don't know if anyone else has experienced this but I have a horrible attitude. I feel depressed unmotivated and well life just sucks attitude. I have 2 wonderful boys and a great husband. So much to be great full for but I miss food. Nothing is satisfying me and I feel like an outcast when it's time to eat with the family. Maybe I should see me physiologist? I don't know. Is it withdraws?

I feel so bad for you. We are all going through a big life change. It is gonna take some time before we are comfortable with all of the changes. I feel the same way at times. I find my self watching my husband eat and just saying, "is that good?" I miss food too, and being able to eat whatever I want. By this time you should be able to eat most of what your family is eating, just in smaller amounts. What is your diet? Talking to someone wouldn't ever hurt, and if that's what you need to do, you should. Maybe someone on this site, who has been through it, can help you. Just know that you are not alone! Take care.

Thank you ladies for understanding my feelings and making me feel like I'm not alone. I feel a little better already. I can eat almost everything my family eats but some foods are still uncomfortable going down. I printed up some recipes that are gastric bypass friendly and that my family will like. The website is http:/spark people.com.

Glad we could all help. Gonna check that website too! My family is all eating healthy, for the most part, so we all eat the same things. There are occasions where pizza is made and I stay away from that.

Just did little research on what some of us are feeling. It is called hibernation syndrome. It usually occurs 2 to 4 weeks after surgery. It is the body`s reaction to the smaller amounts of food we are eating. It causes us to feel tired, lethargic and depressed. The body wants to slow way down until the old food supply returns. Starting to exercise gets the body used to using the fat as energy. The site says to seek help if the conditions last more than 8 weeks. See? What we are feeling is totally NORMAL! Don't worry anyone, we can do this! Best wishes to all!

I have fibromyalgia so its hard for me to decide to push myself or not. If i push too hard then i put myself into a flare.

Omg thank you for this too. I actually knew about the hibernation thing but my first two weeks were pretty easy and I forgot about it. Now I want to sleep all the time and feel like such a bum but remembering that it is normal sooo helps:)

My youngest thinks its bs that i have her load and unload the dishwasher but when she wants me to write her a check she thinks I'm denying her when i refuse. I don't ask for too much. My husband works 15 days straight and his days are long so i only ask him to take the trash out. I can't wait to be released because if i don't do it no one will.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
