I am in the doctors office to get my staples out this morning! !

It really is interesting how different our doctors are. I won't have stitches they use glue. And I don't have the blue ice chip test. They do the leak test while I'm still in surgery.

Oh well! Good luck to everyone tomorrow. I'm starting to freak out a bit. But I know it's for the best.

Is a straw bad??

I was told to never use a straw bc it allows for air to fill your pouch instead of what your drinking.

I triple checked this info bc I LOVE drinking with a straw!!

Great information on the straw thing. Is anyone considering a vegetarian lifestyle post-op?

Well, I made it! Not gonna lie, the first day after surgery kicked my butt! Slept good last night and am now having red Jello and juice. Get a nice pureed lunch and then get to go home! Very excited to be in my own home, where I can recover. It does get easier every day!

I would not suggest it. I was a vegetarian with the band. Soy products are only good for you in small amounts. You really should not live off them. Also think about how much they have to process soy to get it to taste and feel like different meats. I still eat soy products from time to time, but it will effect your hormones. They threw me out of wack and made me crazy.

I was told no straw no gum because both cause gas...and we don't want that! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
