Protein Shakes - how long?

Recommended Posts

So I just saw my nutritionist yesterday and got the surgeon's diet plan and I'm a little worried...

I have been reading lots of posts on here and it seems like most people are using the Protein Shakes for a while, the plan I got says to stop them after week 2. It also doesn't have a 'goal' amount of Protein either and the nutritionist wouldn't tell me one other than for 'normal' people and that I should probably have more since my doctor didn't have one. I can't imagine I would get enough from three meals of only 1/4 cup even if it were all protein.

So how long did you guys use the Protein shakes and how much protein are you all getting a day?

My meal plan stops the shakes after week 2 and has no Protein goal either. They just say " eat according to your green sheet!" Over and over. I'll probably ask more specifically when I'm closer to being able to eat real food.< /p>

70-80 grams a day is what I was told I have a Protein Drink for Breakfast you can mix it with skim milk or soy or make it into a smoothie using Greek yogurt Protein mix and fresh fruit according to what stage your at or PB2 and some sugar free flavoring that's all good for about 25-35 gms mu nut says that's a good start for a long time even for life if you weren't a breakfast eater you just need to look for higher protein fish tuna low fat cheeses Beans etc who would have thought a string cheese would be lunch

I can use Protein Drinks for the rest of my life if I want and will probably do that as I use them for a meal. I am suppose to be between 65-75 grams a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
