Hair Loss/Wigs

Your hair loss could be related to your diet...but there are many other possible causes (see the sites below). If it does turn out that your Hair loss is because of the surgery or your diet...don't worry, because it does grow back! Eight years ago I went through a stressful breakup and I lost 25 pounds in one month. Over the next 3 months I lost another 50 pounds (75 pounds in 4 months). My diet was terrible and I was extremely stressed out. My hair started to fall out in clumps. I read somewhere that the average person loses 125 hairs per day. I counted the hairs in one of the clumps that came out in the shower and stopped at 400 (I wasn't half way through the clump). First I cried...then I got on the internet and did some research. My hair did grow back and now all these years later it looks fine. I'm not taking any chances this time though. I'm taking Vitamins and Protein AND remembering to stay relaxed and have a good attitude. Good luck...I hope everything turns out okay and you find a cute wig in the meantime!

My hair is now as thick as it was when I was a teenager.

One more question I forgot to ask, do you know if it can be used on color-treated hair? Thanks so much

Yes, it can. I color my hair every 5 weeks.

Just remember that it takes 3 months for it to work. By the end of the 3rd month, you will have stopped losing hair. By the end of the 4th month, you'll see a lot of new growth.

Its important to work out where the loss is coming from too. I went for a good year saying "I'm not losing hair" before suddenly realising that the shedding was indeed more than normal and ever increasing.

But my hair was breaking off, not coming out at the scalp. All of a sudden this increased and it became incredibly dry. Two solid months of Protein treatments followed by conditioning treatments EVERY single wash (talk about time consuming) and no blow drying or straightening and today I did straighten my hair with my new non damaging bio ionic Iron, and I looked down and there were a measly 4 hairs on the basin. Usually there's been more like 50.

I have long hair so it'll probably take 2 or 3 years for the ends to fill in again as the broken off hairs and new hairs grow down.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I have lost almost half of my hair and Im looking really thin. I am taking Biotin, Folic Acid, Multi Vitamin, Nioxin Shampoo & Condictioner and Rogain. None of the stuff works. I think its from the shock of surgery. From what I have read it should be coming back in in another month or so. Im still really glad I had the surgery.

If I had it to to over with my hair already being thin I would have started the Rogain a month or so before my surgery to help the thinning.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO TAKE B12! REALLY REALLY TINY PILL SO YOU DONT LOSE YOUR HAIR!

I found that Nioxin works well for me. I was already losing my hair before the surgery, so I started losing even more after. Someone on here mentioned Nioxin. It has worked well. It stops your hair from falling any further and it strenghtens your follicles. I love this stuff it tingles too.

Lots of Luv- Alice

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
