Expat 27 Posted March 30, 2013 Whats the waiting time in Island? I spent about 3 months waiting between approval and surgery but that was mainly because of the summer shutdown from midsommar to august 20 we expierence in Sweden. I had my surgery in kirstenstad and funny thing was my Dr is from Island. We had to do everything in english since i couldnt understand his swedish and he couldnt understand my swedish. It kinda depends on your health, but after approval it is not that long. The waiting for approval and getting called in to go to the 5 week program at the clinic is what can take up to 1 to 2 years. Never know maybe we will have the same doc hehe
Expat 27 Posted March 30, 2013 What is the 5 week program? We have nothing like that here. Aslo if you have to wait so long dont they have to make it available to you another way, like sending you to a different region or country. Thats what i did. It would be over a year in hallands lån to have it so i had the option to go to skåne lån to have it. That the nice part ofnational health care.

Some go to the uk for a lapband, it is not done here at all. The lapband alone is almost 9 thousand dollars, then you also need to pay for the flight, hotel, and everything. The program is at a icelands largest rehabilitation center here, you have to go there for 5 weeks minimum to be allowed to go thru this. There you get your health in order, learn to eat right and all sort of physical and mental preparation before the surgery. In fact you might say one has to ho thru obesity rehabilitation before getting acceptet, to make sure one is ready for it.
