I don't have a surgery date yet, for that matter I haven't even talked to my doctor, BUT I know I am having RNY at some point and was wondering what I can to jump start my weight loss. I've been trying to do better and eat less, and healthier for that matter, but when I stepped on the scales, I was up 4 pounds from the last time I weighed, which put me 2 pounds over my highest weight. What can I do?

Have you ever tried low carb. Helped me and it gets you eating like they want you too after surgery as with RNY you always eat Protein first then veggies and fruits. Try cutting out sugar go sugar free, cut out pop as much as you can and if you do have to have one drink diet soda and start exercising at least three times a week. Just walk...

Make sure you eat Breakfast in the morning which includes some sort of Protein -- Greek yogurt, weight smart oatmeal, scrambled eggs... If you have a smart phone try using My Fittness Pal to track your progress. and keep you honest. Cut out all soda and alcohol ... its evil!

thanks y'all!! I don't know if I can live without my Dr. Pepper but I guess I'll have to after surgery, so I might as well start now.

At least make it diet, get rid of the sugar. I still drank diet pop up until surgery and have had no issues..

Starting drinking Protein shakes. Add one right when you wake up or mid day. And eat every 3 hours low fat high Protein. That's what I did when I started the program to get surgery.

Limit the bread and Pasta. Drink 64 oz of Water and switch to diet dr pepper while you still can.

Good luck!

I agree with what everyone above is saying. Low carb. Protein will fill you up. Course before surgery I had lost that sense of feeling full. One thing I wish I would have done before surgery was to walk walk walk. Do something to get moving!!!

I've already given up soda. But I can't stand diet soda, so I really didn't have an option! I'm trying to walk some. I haven't started with my portions yet, I guess I'm still having my food funeral!! I go to the NUT on 4/2, and the Dr wants me to start with 2 week liquid diet. I have to see the NUT for 3 months for insurance to approve me for surgery. I'll also have to do another 2 week liquid diet right before the surgery, so I guess I'm getting it out of my system now!!!

I'm really gonna try to like diet Dr. Pepper, but I don't know... I'm also checking with my dr. to see what Protein Shakes he recommends. The weather will hopefully be improving soon, which will make the walking easier. I have a neighbor who had the surgery like 7 years ago and is anxious to start walking, so I'll at least have a walking buddy. Thank you all for your advice. I know you're all there when (not if) I need support!!!

Try Doctor Pepper 10, hubby hates diet but likes those. It cuts out some of the sugar.

It does get easier with time. Never thought I'd be drinking Water since I love my diet pop. Can't tell you the last time I had one. Just cut them out and went to water, tea, crystal light. You can do this--it's not always fun but is doable.

okay everybody...it's been 2 weeks with NO Dr. Pepper or soda of any sort!!! I'm doing it! I gave it up. and I have found an Ensure that I like for breakfast and have been drinking it. It took a little bit to realize the Ensure WAS my breakfast, not just the drink WITH my breakfast! LOL!!! Baby steps....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
