2mo post op stalled? Help!

Recommended Posts

Ok so I'm three days away from my two month post op mark. I'm so worried cause I haven't lost anymore weight and I'm adding new foods. I'm worried that ill gain weight or that I've lost all I'm going to lose. Preop weight was 236 current post op 195. I was so happy to reach 195 and now I'm worried cause the scale has not moved in weeks. I do Pilates and strength training for toning. I am a lot more active. I am however under a lot of stress. I broke out in hives last night and had to go to ER and get a shot. It was a steroid! The doc said I had no choice because of the rash. So now I'm really panicking. Steroids equal weight gain. I know the shot is temporary and won't last but a day or so but I don't need any help gaining! I guess my question is am I losing weight at a normal rate? Have I stalled? Help! My goal is 145 realistically but really want 135. I do drink tea with sweetnlow and Water with crystal lite. Only one slice of toast a day with sugar free jelly. Any ideas?

Well you have lost 41 pounds I think that is awesome. That is about five pounds a week. Steroids can have effects on your body along with being stressed but it shouldn't be forever so just keep working on things. You are also below 200 so it might start coming off more slowly. Just make sure you are getting all your Water and Protein. You have done great so far don't stress yet.. I would cut the toast out but that is me or maybe just have toast 2 times a week instead of daily.

You are at a stall, but don't panic! I lost the most inches during stalls.

As for the steroids I would consider myself an expert. They are the reason I had the surgery. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on them for 6 years. My dosage has decreased since the surgery. I was on 20mg a day and I am down to 2.5 a day. A shot of steroids will not make you gain weight. You have the potential to gain some if they put you Ina dosage pack, but you gain the weight because you are hungry on steroids. Before the surgery I would wake up at 3 in the morning and felt like I had never eaten. When in fact I had eaten just before bed. With the surgery I am never hungry, and I don't snack unless I am hungry.

So take a deep breath and know that the stall will break and this is all part of the process. A few months from now you will read a post like this and smile knowing that you got through it an offer the new person words of encouragement.

As for you stress find something to help relieve that stress as stress can cause so many problems on our bodies.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
