I'm not yet 4 weeks out, but I can easily eat 1/2 cup or more of food. I can eat a complete Dannon Greek yogurt or a whole Emily Bites "cupcake" or 1 whole scrambled egg. I keep hearing about people saying they get stuffed after 3 bites. Not me! I also get hungry and I definitely have an appetite. Is this normal?

Everyone is different... you might have head hungry instead of general hunger pains. Please stick to your food portions that your surgeon recommends. I will be a year post op on April 9th, I still can only eat small amounts, at first food was discusting to me and as I healed I felt better and at only what my surgeon's directons said. You don't want to push it so early on and believe me when you have ate too much you will feel it for sure !!!!!!

Well, what does your surgeon's guidelines state about portion sizes at your stage of the game?? I can at times it 1/2 or a little more at one time but not very often. Usually I eat about 1/2 of whatever it is I make. I also only eat about 2 times a day bc that is all that I am hungry. I do get it all my Protein and am losing weight just fine. Are you losing weight? Are you getting in all your protein first?? Do you feel full after eating 1/2 cup? I would say as long as you are losing and not getting overly full and following your doctors guidelines you are fine. Everyone is different and every program is different.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
