Just starting the process

Recommended Posts

I had my Pulminary appt today and recieved my medical clearance. Holding my breath on the workshops... they should let me know tomorrow if I'm in.

Workshops are full and everyone paid on time. I'm so disappointed! I'm in the next set of workshops but they don't begin until May 7 and end on May 21. I probably won't get a surgery date until sometime in late May or early June, and that's only if I get insurance approval quickly. :( That timing is right smack in the beginning of of our conversion training at work. :( :( :( I am going to be on a few you-know-what lists...

Does anyone know at what point they submit to insurance for pre-approval? I have an appointment tomorrow and I'll be asking that question then.

Seems like forever that I started this journey, have had many ups and downs. It was hard to make a decision, had to get help with the why I was overeating to be able to overcome that part and then move to where I am at today. Had my pre surgery consult my first one. Schedule to meet Doctor in 2 weeks. then set up surgery.

I'm in the middle. I had the band in 07, so they know .me. I had all the tests, but still need paperwork from previous tests. I had to cancel my appt with surgeons LPN and the dietician, so now have to wait till March. But I don't mind. Gives me more time to lose more weight!

I think of little else but the whole process. I think I got it, but still continue to investigate the process. I'm working with my therapist about the food addiction and I think we're doing well. EMDR. Still, I'm nervous about the actual operation. Open or laparoscopic? Scarey. Good luck to all of you! We can do this!!!! ????????????????????????

I have just started my journey. I am with Kaiser and they say it takes about 6-9 months to get everything done to get a surgery date. I have just done my home sleep study and signed up for my 10 week nutrition classes which start April 6th. After those are done then I will be supervised by a nutritionist and social worker until I meet my "goals" (I don't know what those are yet) then I will meet the surgeon and set a surgery date! Lots of hoops to jump through! I'm scared of the pre op liquid diet I keep hearing about...

So I start my 2 week Pre-op diet tomorrow.....I am excited about my surgery in 2 weeks, but I also need back surgery to help with mobility. So I am ready for this life style change and looking forward to a new wardrobe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
