shortness of breath

Recommended Posts

Anyone get a little short of breath after eating? I think I might of had too much and maybe that is why I am all of the sudden feeling the need to yawn repeatedly and try to keep a deep breath but doesnt feel like I get the full breath. I am using my spirometer still. When I lean over and extend my arms that seems to allow a deeper breath.

I think you should call your Dr. because this is not a place to rule out possible heart problems, as shortness of breath is one of the signs of heart trouble. Please take care.

I would also call your Dr. I know that yawning a lot is from a lack of oxogen. I was told that when I was pregnent. Everytime I would walk around I would yawn the whole time. I was 319 pounds so I was having a problem breathing. You should really get your self checked out. You are probably fine. But it is better to be safe then sorry. Keep us updated.

Hey Guys

I called the doctor on call. Everything was okay. It passed after about an hour or two. Then I was fine. Doc says it was probably because my top pouch was too full. I had probably overeaten. I had thinned garlic mashed potatoes with a little melted cheddar cheese and some sour cream. Even though I whipped it all and thinned it, I think it was a little too much being just 5 days out of surgery. Doc had said if I thinned anything to a shake consistency that it would be okay to eat. Maybe the potatoes thickened up when they got down there? I dont know, I heard some food can expand in your stomach (dont know if that is true). Thanks guys!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
