I came home on day 4 post op. started walking on day 5. I had some complications from surgery so my first walks have only been a few houses down and then back. I'm not up to a mile a day, but doing 30 minutes. Just splitting mine up into different times..10 here...10 there. Good luck to you :) oh I am now 9 days post op.

The hospital that I had my surgery at had PT come in and give me a post-op daily walking program that they said works great. I will outline it for you.

Week 1

Day 1 6min walk x3

Day 2 6 min walk x3

Day 3 8 min walk x3

Day 4 8 min walk x3

Day 5 10 min walk x3

Day 6 10 min walk x3

Day 7 12 min walk x2

Week 2

Day 8 12 min walk x3

Day 9&10 14 min walk x3

Day 11&12 16 min walk x3

Day 13&14 18 min walk x3

Week 3

Day 15&16 20 min walk x2

Day 17&18 22 min walk x2

Day 19&20 24 min walk x2

Day 21 26 min walk x2

Week 4

Day 22&23 30 min walk x1

Day 24&25 34 min walk x1

Day 26&27 38 min walk x1

day 28 40 min walk x1

Week 5

Day 29 40 min walk x1

Day 30&31 42 min walk x1

Days 32-35 45 min walk

This is what the physical therapist said that we should strive to do from now on. An hour would be ideal but at least 45 min walking at a brisk pace, not so that you are out of breath but a little faster than a leisurely pace.

I'm 11 days post op and been walking a couple of miles a day for the past 6 or 7 days. Before that it was mostly around the house and around the block.

This is a great plan for increasing the walking - but remember its just a plan. Every person is different. I really wasn't able to move much for almost two weeks - I did have two complications that required two more hospital stays - so I had really low energy. Encourage yourself - don't use recovery as an excuse - but remember to take things at your own pace. You will really know when you are ready to get moving - give yourself time to heal - its a HUGE surgery - even though then send you home in 2 or 3 days you have weeks of your body trying to heal itself from the inside out. Gentle short periods of movement will get you on the right track. This 1st ones may just be the trips the bathroom and back, then the mailbox, then around the block. Best of healing to you

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
