6 days of liquids and ready to snap

Recommended Posts

I was on full liquids the day after surgery. I had Clear Liquids two days before surgery just to clear out the bowels. I dont understand why your doc would have you not on any Protein at all? You should ask. Doesn't sound right to me. I am 6 days out. I am eating all kinds of things. My doc said the same thing, if it is soft and mushy, try slow and if it is okay, go for it. I eat right now, with no problem - Protein shakes, pudding (sugar free), Jello (sugar free), dannon yogurt smoothies (lite), sucked on a chocolate kiss (dissolved in mouth), fudgsicles (no sugar, 4 grams of Fiber from health food store..YUMMY), creamy tomatoe Soup at hand (that is really thin and yummy!), piece of cheddar cheese I ate in TINY little bites (went down just fine), applesauce, garlic mashed potatoes from country crock with sour cream and a little melted cheddar cheese whipped together (dont eat too much, just a 1/2 cup max it made me a little gassy), stuck my finger in Peanut Butter and sucked it off (dissolved before it went down)...it may sound like a lot, but I really can't eat much of it at all. I can only finish half of the creamy tomatoe soup at hand from campbells..but it is very satisfying. I too have chewed some stuff up and spit it out. I did that with a piece of chicken and a tortilla chip. LOL Anyway, like I said, I am 6 days out and my doc says all this is fine. You may want to try adding some ice and blend it to your drinks to make it a little thicker too. I think you would be fine with applesauce too. Just some ideas.

You should be able to have full liquids by now. Try Campbell's Soup in a sip cup and try Velvety Potato. I had some yesterday and was great and I got full off of less than 1/2 a can. Sip slow and enjoy!!! Try drinkable yogurts and Protein Shakes. They really help break the broth boreness!!!

If you need to stay on the liquid diet per doctor's orders I would see if there is a way you can at least add the Protein powder or Protein shakes. This really helps with the hunger.

Even though the protein helps with the hunger, it does not help with the problem of lack of variety. For that I did use the method of chewing it up and spitting it out. It is a bit gross but it's also fairly effective. Just be careful, it's pretty easy to swallow a bit of solid food that way and that's not a good idea at this point.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
