Just wondering if anyone on here has used Dr. Zapata in Monterey.... if so, how much the total cost? Did you have any complications? I had the vertical sleeve done and am having lots of complications... doctor said the conversion to rny would help, but not having insurance I'm looking in Mexico. Any feedback would be appreciated.

God Bless

I recommend Dr. Alberto Aceves in Mexicali, his webpage: http://mexicalibariatric.com I had surgery with him a week ago, he is THE BEST!!! No pain, not hungry, no nausea, him and his team are a 5 star team. I am local, I live in Mexicali but know that people from all over the world travel to get surgery done with him. I hope you like what you read on his webpage.

Did you have or do you still have gerd? My sleeve made mine worse..... I can't eat without vomiting. No stricture.... no leak..... my doctor seems to think that doing the RNY will alleviate my gerd and allow me to be able to tolerate food. I've read a lot about Dr. Aceves on VST. Dr. Alvarez did my sleeve surgery. I'm hoping that this nightmare can come to an end and I can finally start living my life.

Yes, I had reflux which we thought was caused by a hiatal hernia, I've never had lapband or sleeve, this is my first WLS but my surgeon said that bypass takes care of the reflux. I heard from his staff last week that a lot of people from VST come down here for surgery, I've never been to that forum, but I think it is the most "popular" surgery at the moment. For me, bypass was suggested because of the reflux. One week out, no regrets!!! Is Dr. Alvarez in TJ? or Mty?

I wish that bypass would have been mentioned to me..... Dr. Alvarez is in piedras negras. .... think I spelled that right lol . I've been doing a lot of research and your doctor is right , my sleeve made my reflux 10 times worse . I had my sleeve done 11/30/2012 and have been miserable ever since , none of the acid reducers help. Will definitely be giving Dr. Aceves a call

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
