Tell me about your hair experience!

Recommended Posts

Hey WLS Fam... I'm 6 days pre op and I'm hearing a lot about how your hair thins out. Please tell me about your experience right after surgery? How did you handle it?

I'm still pre-op too, but I've been using the Garnier Fall Fight Shampoo and can tell its helping with Hair loss. I got the tip from a friend who is a few months post-op and has significantly slowed the hair loss with the shampoo.

I'm 5-1/2 months post op and have had very little hair loss. I take Biotin every day and use anti breakage Shampoo.< /div>

I take Biotin too. How many mg or IU's do you take and when after surgery did you start taking them.

I'm almost four months out and have taken Biotin everyday. I also use Wen. I was taking 5000 mcg but I stepped up to 10000 mcg. Good luck

Oh and the MOST important thing is keeping your Protein up. When I have days I want to give up or say screw it, my hair keeps me motivated to get it in.

Using goid products helps. Dont go cheap with your hair care. Get hair cut often and use treatments and your hair will look great even if a few, strands go. I lost some hair. It came back. No worries. I have never taken.special Vitamins for hair. My nut says that is a farse. We will all lose a little but it comes back.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
