Jessica9190 127 Posted March 13, 2013 I am not exactly sure what are the signs of lactose intolerant. I have been having so much trouble with my Protein Shakes. I posted this in another thread but thought I might get more answers if I posted it in a thread of its own. I am starting to think I have become lactose intolerant. Even before surgery I always got a tummy ache after I had milk or ice cream or something like that but I love milk and ice cream so I just dealt with it. I guess it wasn't that bad. However now it is much worse. For example yesterday I had one Protein shake and I had stomach cramps for about two hours and I just felt ill. It finally went away and I felt much better. When I think about it I get that way after I eat yogurt as well. It's just not nearly as bad. Anyone have a clue if that is lactose intolerant or if it's a different problem? Any thoughts? gra5u5 30 Posted March 13, 2013 Try unsweetened almond milk with your shakes. See if the stomach pains go away. 1 skinnyjess2013 reacted to this

Yes you have a lactose issue....besides most women need to stay away from dairy...unsweetened almond milk is a great substitute for milk. Surgeons tell us that if your not lactose intolerant you may become that way after bypass. HW 250/1st Lapband 198/2nd Lapband 232/Pre conversion 2/6/13 to bypass 232. pookybear 284 Posted March 15, 2013 Definite lactose sensitivity. I had the same thing as you pre-op. some things bothered me, some didn't. I honestly haven't tried much dairy since surgery but so far the small amount I have tried has been ok. Re-Birthday: 2/27/
Wendilou 180 Posted March 15, 2013 Sounds like you're lactose intolerant. Seems like yogurt doesn't bother us quite as much as milk does, probably because the bacteria in it breaks down the milk sugars. I use light soy milk with my Protein Shakes and I love it! Jessica9190 127 Posted March 15, 2013 I'm going to try the oh yeah shakes from GNC and see if that makes a difference. I'm so sick of the tummy cramps from trying so hard to reach my Protein goal.
music1618 879 Posted March 15, 2013 Try the lactaid milk. I really can not tell the difference when mixed in my Protein Shake.< /p>
Nicole K 352 Posted March 17, 2013 I got diarrhea after surgery every time I used 1% milk with my shakes. Doctor said to switch to lactaid and it's been fine ever since.
