Food Portions

Does anyone know just how many ounces of foods we can have at each meal during the soft food stage?

For example, for dinner I would like to have 4 ounces (1 small individual container) of lowfat cottage cheese With msybe 1\4 cup of green peas. Is it too much? or the Smart Ones I think is the name of a small microwaveable dinner entree which plan to eat only half of which would be about 2-3 ounces of Salisbury Steak and about 1\4 cup of Mac n Cheese. I just began soft foods, I was only eating 1/2 cup which is 4 ounces of any pureed food per meal. I'm not sure what to eat now.

My NUT would say that's too much. I can have 1/4 of a cup of total food at a sitting. I wouldn't do the microwave meals as the carb could would be high. Chili, egg beaters, cottage cheese, Greek yogurt (plain no fruit yet). Depending on what your NUT said. I had cream of wheat, 1/2 the serving but it was the Protein One. Tomato Soup with milk and plain Protein Powder.< /p>

I know I was allowed 1/2 cup food per sitting when I was on pureed. My list says I can have peas amd Beans. Every doctor/nutritionist seems to allow different foods so it can get a little confusing. I read here some people eating shrimp but I'm not allowed. I'm allowed to eat well cooked Pasta and some people here aren't.

I've been allowed oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc since I left the hospital. Friday is my 1 month check up and I'll be released to eat whole wheat toast, well cooked Pasta, and brown rice as well as start soft fruits and veggies....

Just because 1 doc doesn't allow you to have a certain food doesn't mean the rest of us are cheating or breaking the rules, perhaps our rules are just a bit different. Once I'm on regular foods (about another month) I'm specifically supposed to have a Protein, a starch, and a fruit or veg with each meal, Protein heavy and protein first of course. My doc is a firm believer in eating a well balanced meal to maintain health, this includes starches...in moderation. I'm in agreement and glad he's not one that says nothing but protein.

I would refer that to your nutritionist with your program. I have found every program is different. I am on regular food and get the Atkins frozen meal and still can't eat 1/2. I believe during the soft phase I could have like a half cup.. I usually couldn't even finish that.

This entree is small and I was going to attempt to finish my half of the Mac n cheese but it did seem like too much. I bought it because the Salisbury steak is soft and moist. I won't have it until I check With my nutritionist first this Friday :)

Thanks.

Exactly. Your doctor has more similar rules to mine. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
