Not getting enough Protein

Recommended Posts

What happens if you don't get all your Protein in? My surgery buddy and I are having the same issue. Not many we can tolerate. I just look at my protein and throw up. Sorry TMI. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm right there with you but I've been trying to force myself. No Protein can lead to hair loss tooth decay and muscle loss to the point you can barely stand. Protein is very important.

I'm sure there are many more side effects but those were enough for me. I'm sick to death of those shakes but trying. I have found some Greek yogurt that has 13 grams of protein for 5 oz so I've been eating a lot of that.

Good luck to both of you.

There are plenty of foods that are high in Protein but it all depends on what stage of food you are in. I am not fond of the shakes either but they are the easiest way to get my min. 64 grams/daily and not too many calori. es. There are the Protein Bars you could try, and of course the yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs, Beans, nuts, etc. etc. I ALWAYS eat my protein FIRST. If you don't get your protein in you will lose hair and not get the proper nutrition. The Protein Shots are discusting (in my opinion). You just have to go by trial and error to find what works best for you.

I think for the longest time I lived on light greek yogurt, canned chicken and cheese. And of course shakes. The only one I could tolerate for a while was Syntrax nectar chocolate Truffle. Premade shakes still make me ill and I am almost 4 months out.

Sometimes a few Water crackers (minis) helped settle my stomach so I could eat.

I'm going on my fourth week after surgery and I get sick to my stomach by the sight or even talking about the Protein Shakes. I see the Dr on April 1st and at that point I should be able to move on to the soft food stage. I'm hoping I will be able to eat Protein bars at that point. At what time did anyone try the protein bars?

I'm in the same boat! In the last few days I have had to just force myself to drink to get the Protein. I took someone's advice and got the Premier Protein in chocolate pre made at costco. In 11oz it gives me 30g protein. I just pour it into a small 2 ounce measuring cup and basically do shots every 15-30 minutes of it.

I have a problem with the Protein too. When I drink it, any kind, it makes me sick. Worries me. But I do drink my milk. I go for my 10 day check up thursday and I am going to talk to him about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
