This is a little TOO easy

I had surgery on 2/27. Still on full liquids. I've had barely any pain or issues since I was released from the hospital. Haven't even touched the pain meds. I've sort of cheated a few times and tried things I shouldn't yet, but I've been very cautious about it. Everything has been tolerated perfectly. I actually have to keep reminding myself that I did have surgery because I feel so good. I know it's a good thing to feel good, but I'm scared at some point in going to 'forget' and pay the price. Thats one of the reasons I'm still staying with my bf, so I have a back up to watch me if I do something wrong lol. Is it weird this soon out to be feeling this good? I feel like I could've been on soft foods for several days already. Even the Dr at my first post op appointment this past Thursday seemed surprised that I was doing this well. Not that I'm complaining that I feel so good, but it doesn't seem right to be feeling this normal so soon.

no it's not weird. I had the same thing. I stopped taking pain meds after I left the hospital, never had dumping, no issues. Just consider yourself one of the lucky ones, follow your diet plan, and enjoy the smooth recovery most don't experience :)

Consider urself lucky. My surgery date was 2/19/13 and I'm having an extremely difficult time getting anything down, Water included. I am still in some pain but that part is manageable. I've already been admitted back into the hospital after surgery. I am glad u are doing well, I am looking forward to it soon.

I had no issues either, no pain meds even when I was in the hospital, skipped the clear liquid phase and went straight to general liquids. The pureed phase for me has pretty much been my own cooking chopped up in the food processor and now I am eating pretty much what I want (no Pasta, bread, salad, steak) and I am only 4 1/2 weeks out. Still only eating about 4-6 tablesppons per meal. I've lost 21 lbs since the day I got home from the hospital, I go back Friday, guess we'll see what they say...I also don;t feel like i had any surgery until i start eating...I so hope I can start eating salad again after my appt. Keep up the good work..

Just be careful with eating things you shouldn't too early. This can be something that can cause a stricture especially early on when you are still healing.

It is amazing how different everyone's journey is. Some have great difficulty and some it doesn't even phase them. I have done well myself some nausea but nothing zofran can't take care of. I am a little over six weeks and on regular foods-finally as of last Tuesday and actually had my first salad YIPPEE!!!!. Still don't eat much most days but get all my Protein, Vitamins and Water in.

Congrats! Do be careful. I felt ok after the hospitals isn't take pain meds but after 3 months throwing up non stop & ended up needing a little opening in my stomach cuz it decided to close up so I couldn't eat. I'm great now 9 months & goal weight well under. I wanted to be 125 I'm 115 but its all good.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
