When will i feel normal again.

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks post op and still can not eat anything. I try soft foods but get that uncomfortable feeling in my belly and chest like I've over eaten after 1 or 2 spoons. I can never get my Fluid all in for the same reason. All I want to do is lay down. I'm tired of Protein Shakes but I still do them but watered down. I can't seem to eat anything!!

Not sure we'll ever feel normal again - if our definition is our "old" self. We're different now after the surgery. I'm 12 weeks out and I have not got a good understanding of what my new stomach can do. Each day is different. While this is not always comfortable - I'm OK with it as I no longer need diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol meds and I am down about 65#s. The trade-off works for me. I'll accept some uncomfortableness with the reward being health/longevity.

I think we all signed up for a new life because the old one wasn’t working for us...

I certainly did not sign up to be throwing up and having food and Water stuck in my chest and fearing being admitted in the hospital again for complication or dehydration.

I only got sick a few times in the beginning, every once in a while I feel like I might get sick.... I think in a few more weeks it will get better, everyone is different, I think you just need time and try to be positive! Good luck!

To Celebrate me

If you aren't feeling better or not getting fluids in you should call the doctors.

I am still pre-op but maybe you have a stricture. Or just need iv fluids. Its better catch it early than be really really sick.

I guess I would be contacting my surgeon if I was throwing up and couldn't eat. Sometimes that can be a sign of a complication. You will never eat like you once did but you should be able to get food in without pain as long as you are chewing well and eating slow. I would also suggest getting Zofran if you have any nausea.

It does take time, every program and surgeon is a little different about how they stage their foods and how long you are to eat that food. I am a little over six weeks and feel awesome. I would say about 4 weeks out I started to really feel good. Hang in there..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
