Years ago, I learned from all kinds of sources that wounds heal much faster when covered with a bandaid, creating a kind of moist environment, and it reduces scarring.

On Friday, surgeon removed steri strips and didn't say anything more, but I've been fretting about the whole moist wound thing for the past few days. This morning, I decided to apply neosporin and cover the incisions with band aids. Everything is closed except the drain site, which is fairly ooky.

Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

My doc specifically told me no neosporin or ointment (and other word with ick-factor), but as you'll quickly learn on here, every doc is different

I had to do a moist wound care on my ankle. But that was only for them to see if they would have to cut out the yuck post the wound line. It hurt like a bat to the knee.

I used to be a Wound Consultant. Moist wound Healinh generally refers to secondary healing eg. When a wound is open and needs to granulate and heal from the base up. Primary wound closure is when something us drawn back together and held there with stitches , staples or steri strips. If you skin is joined and there us no raw flesh open then u do not need to worry. Neoaporin won't help and prolonged used can lead to bugs getting resistance. Covering a stores me with something like hospital paper tape eg. Micropore has been shown to reduce tension on the suture line resulting in less scat tissue being laid down. Hope this helps. Band aids are nasty!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
