I worked in HR for a number of years -

ultimately your insured by the company you work for - the insurance “company” handles and manages the bills - but essentially your copays etc change - thats why we all dont’ have ONE insurance company (YET) - then add in the infrastructure of the companies that manager your plan - your insurance group - and there’s another layer of policies and police work -

I’m NO expert in insurance - I AM an expert in FMLA -

I seriously contemplated changing my group - but this week I just had my ahah lightbulb moment - and I’m so happy I’m with who I’m with...

I bitched and moaned about more tests and tests and tests and now - I’M THRILLED especially when I read that others aren’t even getting tested...

amen! My Dr’s care allot about me and my success.

Shasta - I'm sure they care but the more tests they put you through the more money in their pockets. They also put in the mix of your current health which might help determine how many tests are involved for each person. :)

I have an hmo and none of the tests cost me anything - and because I’m HMO they aren’t making bank on me at all - they make ooooooodles of money on the folks with the mercedes or caddilac types of insurance - hardly the cheapo HMO -

on that note - yes they cost the insurance company - but I hardly believe they are willy nilly sending me off for tests just for their own pockets - I’m, after all, gastric bypass - they can load up their pockets on the people with terminal diseases that will not longer be their patients...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
