I am a post-op puker big time!!!! Tell your anesthesiologist pre-op' date=' there's a lot they can do. The scopolamine patch is a lifesaver!!!!!!

HW 312, pre-op (lap-band) 294, pre-op (RNY) 255, surgery date 2/11/13, goal weight 154, current weight 231.4[/quote']

if you stay on top of your nausea preop and post op it will do wonders! I had mine 12/17/ , pain meds can also cause nausea unless your used to them . so if they can alternate between zofran and phenergan and give you a scopolamine that will surely help you . like most people say everyone heals diffrently keep your communication with your surgeon above all sip when you can thats important! I am almost three months out still have severe nausea use my ODT quite a bit, can't do meat most food.comes up but I am not normal case. ...... best of luck to you ;)

I had surgery 2/27/13 and I have yet to throw up or be nauseous. Most of it will come from dumping. At first you just want to tread lightly. Try new things very gradually, and once you find that you can/can't tolerate it, move on to the next one. Listen to your body. If you're feeling good, you'll obviously be able to do more than if you're in pain or nauseous. I guess I have a pretty high pain tolerance because I've had barely any pain since I've been home. Haven't even touched the pain meds. You definitely don't want to be lifting much of anything for about 2 weeks. So depending on how you're feeling you may be able to do a lot around the house, but anything requiring lifting you'll probably need to safe for hubby.

I'm five months post op and I've thrown up no more than 6 or 7 times...for me, I know it's coming because my mouth gets all watery and spitty...then when it comes out...TMI alert...it's slow, not forceful Nd not at all projectile. Hope that helps.

You are bloated and swollen dear! You just had major surgery. As long as you're tolerating fluids, passing gas, and the pain isn't severe you are likely fine, however if your concerned something may be off call your doc :)

Hi everyone' date=' This is my first post! I have checked all the boxes on my pre-op checklist and just need to meet with the nutritionist to schedule! First question: I've been told I'll likely throw up "a lot" at first after surgery. Is it horrible and is it one of those "I need to run to the toilet" kind of deals or do you know it's coming? Also, (and I know everyone's experiences are different), how long does this period last?

Second: I study from home. How many days post-op would I be able to sit at my desk for about 4 hours per day (in one stretch due to my daughter's school schedule)? And would I be getting up every 2 minutes to throw up?

Third (okay I lied, lol): I have a really high pain tolerance. I had 3 golf ball-sized gall stones for two years and I just thought it was gas lol! I understand this is a different type of surgery, but my daughter was 18 months at the time and I FELT able to lift her the same day. How long do you guys think my husband will need to help me around the house? Thanks for any and all info![/quote']

First: try not to concentrate so much on the throwing up. everyone is different some don't even throw up. some get only nausea.

Second: that depends on how you do pain. some have no pain, some have minor pain and some have horrific pain.

Third: Depends again on the Second answer. Besides you have a high pain tolerance. I to have a HIGH pain tolerance and I crashed and burned for 2.5 weeks with horrific pain and sleeping in a recliner.

Fourth: you will do fine don't let any of our posts scare you:-)

I'm 3 months post op today and never threw up at all. They send you home with nausea meds from hospital. I took them at first but after a week I didn't need it.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
