For the past year, I have had a small business doing cake parties, mostly for kids' birthdays, where I lead the guests in a cupcake decorating project. This cake decorating thing was a big contributor to my weight.

So right before surgery, I packed up all my cake stuff and sent it to the basement, and cleaned out my pantry. I have not yet, however, disabled my website or FB page, but since I'm starting a masters program in a few months and returning to work at the end of summer, I'd just decided the cake thing was done.

So tonight I got an email from someone requesting a cake party for April 6. My first reaction was to decline, but now I'm wondering if I should go ahead and do it. I have enough control at this point that I'm not going to be eating cupcakes or frosting, BUT, that might be a bit difficult, because I kind of do need to taste at least a little bit just to make sure everything is ok.

So, decline and close the business for good because I am focusing on my post op success? Or be strong and take the gig because money is money and I have nothing else going on?

If it were me....and I had some semblance of self control...I would do it. A taste is not going to hurt you....if a taste has the potential to turn into a binge and put you in danger of hurting your fresh baby pouch then it's not worth it....or if a taste has the potential to derail you then probably not worth it. I look at it as everything in moderation. I will not avoid cake for life...I'm hoping my new tummy will allow me to take 3 or 4 bites and be satisfied instead or eating half the cake.

I can see both sides to this. However my advise would be to go for it and do the party. Your body will tell you when you are crossing the line on tasting things. When the party is over and you have not eaten what you used to eat you can Celebrate the small victory.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
