Changed my surgery date :(

Recommended Posts

I was scheduled to have surgery on April 1st but it has been changed to April 9th due to surgeon scheduling issues. It actually works out better because of Easter but I just want to get in there and get it over with. I was supposed to start my liquid diet but they put that off a week or so too because I am a "lightweight" patient (I have under 40 bmi but 5 comorbs) so they don't want me to lose more than 15 lbs before surgery. I need to lose a total of just over 70 lbs and I am getting a lot of people telling me that they don't think I need this surgery. I have been overweight since 4th-5th grade. I lose weight and have been down to 120 lbs but have never been able to maintain for more than a year or so. So am I taking the "easy way out", if they knew the way this surgery changes your life, they wouldn't think it was easy! But I am just tired of defending or justifying my decision. I am 39 years old and I take 6 different meds a day for hypertension, high cholestrol, GERD, etc... I don't want to be 40 something and have a heart attack like quite a few people in my family! So maybe this is an extreme way to go but I know in my heart that this is what I need to do to get off the meds, get healthy and STAY THAT WAY!

Thanks for listening to my rant, please let me know if there's any of you out there in the same situation. It would be great to hear what you think (good or bad)

We sound similar. I'm 5'7" and 218 pounds. No one thinks I should do this. But I was 140 when I got married with a normal usual weight around 150. I don't have any comorbidities so even more difficult to justify. But I have lap band complications. I'm tired of not feeling like myself and I am looking forward to feeling like me again.

I go up and down too. In the last five years I have been between 270 and 170 multiple times and that's not healthy.

I as well am 39. I decided to do this surgery because I have struggled my entire life with my weight. One of my biggest triggers to get this surgery was also the fact that my brother died at the age of 39. This was due to a heart attack and multiple strokes. So I want to get healthy by the time I turn 40 in December. I also want to be off my medicine as well. As far as people thinking I took the easy way out, well screw them. This has already been a tough process and I am still 8 days away from surgery. I have only told my husband, mom and dad, and two friends. One of the friends who likes to tell me if I just ate less and exercised more I'd lose weight. Lol! Like I haven't done that over and over! I am going to tell my BFF 2 weeks after my surgery when I will see her on vacation.i am worried about her being judge mental, but it s what it is. As for everyone else if they ask i will just tell them I am on a strict diet and exercise program. I don't feel the need to tell everyone. I have my surgery on march 14, my pre op appt is tomorrow. Feel free to contact me :) also you can find me on myfitnesspal under kraney73. Stay strong. You made a great decision. I wish you the best of luck on your wls journey.

Taking the easy way out? Holy cow batman the leg work before you can be approved for surgery then the surgery its self then the life long commitment.

Not sure how they think its the easy way out.

Good luck with your surgery. Remember your doing this for you not them.
