ljinksy 10 Posted March 6, 2013 I was supposed to be on a liquid diet but it didn't work out very well. .. does anyone know what will happen when n if the dr asks. ? The liquid diet is first and foremost to reduce the size of your liver, so that it can be easily moved aside during the surgery. According to my reading materials, it's also to promote rapid weight loss, and to soften up the belly fat. I also feel that it's good practice for my mind having to learn that I won't be putting that much food in my mouth again. I think you might be in danger of having your surgery cancelled if you can't be compliant with the liquid diet. I am in day 2 of that, and it IS tough! BUT - if I can't follow this regime for 2 weeks BEFORE my surgery, how would I ever be successful for a lifetime AFTER my surgery? 2 lili2012 and ElleG reacted to this
Amanda R 56 Posted March 6, 2013 The dr will ultrasound your liver prior and if it hasn't shrunk then he might cancel the surgery. There have also been cases where they go in to surgery and see and don't complete the surgery

Foranewme 46 Posted March 6, 2013 I was supposed to be on a liquid diet but it didn't work out very well. .. does anyone know what will happen when n if the dr asks. ? The liquid diet after is much easier because your stomach is smaller. I had a tough time with my pre diet. And it is much easier after surgery. How much does your doctor want you to lose? shellbell73 13 Posted March 6, 2013 I think every dr is different
Foranewme 46 Posted March 6, 2013 I think every dr is different Your totally right. Some doctors dont require preop liquid diets. I didnt do so well on mine. Only lost 3 pounds. My doctor wanted me to lose 5 to 10. But surgery day he wasnt worried about it. at the hospital everything seems to move really fast. I find it alot easier after surgery to do the liquid diet. I think you have to try to the best you can on it.
Janel 46 Posted March 6, 2013 I was supposed to be on a liquid diet but it didn't work out very well. .. does anyone know what will happen when n if the dr asks. ? I have not done well at all on mine, I've cheated every day. So now I am headed to GNC to pick up an appetite suppressant and a 7day total body cleanse. That I will start today since my surgery is in 8 days. I had asked my doctor for appetite suppressants and he said 80% of patients don't feel the need for them. I have been told no specfic amount of pounds to loose. My HW is 255.00 and he said I have little belly fat, he just wants my liver smaller. So I think all the doctors expect some type of cheating. I mean really if we could control food we wouldn't need the surgery, and they wouldn't perform them. Janel 1 MarinaCC reacted to this

Don't do a cleanse--there can be herbs in that which could cause surgical problems. Do the best you can on liquids--my doc let me have Soups with meat and Beans and veggies and yogurt. My liver was ok during my surgery last week.

I would call and ask the doctor about taking the appetite suppression from GNC. Sometimes they can have some really wierd stuff in them. Do the best you can. Amd just make your day.before surgery you stick to all liquids.

I agree dont do the cleanse without approved by the doctor. He would be more likely to cancel your surgery for that then if you didnt lose alot of weight preop.
