I'm two weeks post op today and am soooo tired of protien shakes. Tommorow I start puréed foods. I am still having trouble sipping. I get thirsty and so i gulp too much at a time and feel miserable. This has gotta get better. Ooh and left side is still sore. I have lost 16 pounds so far in exactly two weeks. I thought it would be more because I prolly only do about 250 cals a day!

I am 1 week postop and staying at moms. Couldn't stomach the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes at Hosp or the lemon tea Protein supp I had for after discharge. Smells and tastes nasty. At this point I am on liquids and no Protein unless in some if the Peanut Butter or baby food I seem to be able to get down a little. Someone should really work on this stuff....

As much as you hate the shakes you MUST drink them it is VERY important to get your Protein to sustain life.

I could not drink them after surgery. In fact it was not until 7 months later that I can stand them. I had all the side effects of lack of Protein. Trust me it is much better to get your protein in. I found a protein that I can mix with 4 oz of liquid. I get my protein in and can drink it in one gulp.

I just made Protein pudding, using 2 cups of skim, 2 scoops of Protein Powder, and 1 small box of SF pudding. It's really yummy, and I think u can get 6-8 servings out of it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
