Feeling discouraged and just plain mad!

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 months post op Gastric bypass surgery. I had the surgery because I was maxed out on blood pressure meds and it still was not controlled. Since then, I've lost around 60 pounds and have been able to discontinue two of my six meds and reduce the dosage of another. My blood pressure readings were looking pretty good and I was hopeful that I'd soon get off of the rest of my meds. During the last week or so, my BP has suddenly gone back up to the higher numbers and I'm so discouraged because I'm feeling like I went through the surgery and all the post-op adjustments only to be back to where I was before I started this journey! I'm supposed to see my doctor next week and feel like I'll never get to the point that I don't have to take medications. I might add that I'm working out with a personal trainer at a gym 3-4 times every week. Anyone else with BP issues have any insight or encouraging words for me? Thanks!

You are doing so well! Don't get discourgaged. Maybe it is just a hiccup in the process? Has something changed in the last two weeks or so? I know mine is really stress related.

I am not sure about the Bp meds, but I can say your body might still be adjusting to its new normal. Before getting discouraged talk with your doctors. Your PCP and surgeon - and let them help you out. It may be just a simple fix and getting stressed out will only add to your BP issues.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
