Yep! My surgeon is Dr Pennington. I have met him twice now- for seminar and initial consult. I have been very happy so far. Everything is geared toward Obese patients-chairs are all large so you never feel uncomfortable and everyone I've dealt with so far has been super sweet- so far I've met Pennington, his coordinator Margaret, mental health, NUT, and fitness. I've had my EKG and H pylori tests. I'm waiting to do my psych eval next week (they don't do them) and then I'll go back to get insurance approval. The program fee for seeing NUT, fitness, and mental health is $300 and this covers you for 6 months after surgery worth of visits.

If you have any other questions let me know... I know there is another lady on here that is using Pennington as well.

Thanks for your reply.

Dr Pennington is my surgeon, as well and miss Margaret is my Bariatric C. They are truely amazing and caring. I loved Katelyn, the Fit lady and the Psych lady, too.

That's about how much I paid last week, $300. I did everything in one day since I live near Montgomery and cannot drive to Birmingham at their convenience.

I'm waiting to hear from my insurance (living on a prayer, right now), so we can move along with the pre-op diet and than schedule the surgery.

That Endoscopy was no walk in the park. Now I know how it feels like to be abducted by aliens and probed thru the nose. hahaha Dr Pen was really awesome and careful about it and his nurses really thoughtful. Wasn't as painful as I imagined it to be.

Who knows, maybe we will cross paths on the 6th floor. :)

I love them all too..... Yeah the $300 program fee seems steep but I figure since it gives us access to all 3 ladies for 6 months after surgery that it's really a bargain! The pre-op diet is going to be no picnic!

I did my pysch eval last week and I'm praying this week to know when my date will be! I have done everything insurance has asked and Margaret should be submitting to them this week- and they said I'd know quickly with UHC. I feel you on the living on a prayer!

Wow I'm so thankful I didn't have to do the Endoscopy! that sounds terrible... aliens lol.

I have already started getting some things ready that I'll need- already have switched off NSAIDs and I am starting Biotin today- trying to keep my hair from thinning after surgery. Already got some baby spoons and bowls with lids and Gas-Ex too! Even got some socks with the grippers on them for walking in the hospital!

I cannot wait.... I know the closer it gets the nerves will start to set in. Luckily I'm local so Trinity isn't far for me but I do try and squeeze everything in too so I don't have to miss work more than necessary (since I'll be missing a couple weeks for surgery that is). :)

I think I am still not fully realizing I might have RNY soon. I have been obese all my life and just cannot picture myself healthy and fit looking. I don't feel nervous nor very stressed yet. Maybe once I get my answer, it will hit me like a pile of bricks and I'll be running around looking like a beheaded chicken. hahaha

I'll definitely be saying a prayer for us all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
