I Was Just Banded And I Am Wondering If I Will Ever Get To Enjoy A Chesseburger Again! Or At Least Half Of One? I Am Still On Clear Liquids And Tonight I Realized How Psycolgically Draining food Is! I Am Not Hungry At All Just Craving!

Really doubt it. Its not the meat its the bread. Try a burger with lettuce as the bun. I am 9 months post op and can eat toast. You could try a burger with toasted bread. I think that it would be too much food though. Start small! I miss hamburgers too but...well you know.

I made the decision to give that kind of food up when I was banded. Can you ever have it again? Maybe, maybe not. Everyone is very different.

I had a burger today. Well, I had a whopper jr. with no mayo and the top bun removed. I wouldn't say I really ENJOYED it but it was fine. Fast food doesn't have the same appeal to me anymore- but my husband and kids really wanted to go there for lunch so I made due. I believe things like cheeseburgers can still be a SMALL part of your life as long as your band can tolerate it- just on a much much smaller scale than before. There is no food I have given up for good. I just modify it when I do have those things. Mostly I have found a new way of healthy eating that is working for me.

You are going through a pretty typical mourning period right now when it comes to food. As you transition, you will not care about those types of food or get the same feelings of satisfaction with them- Thats what happened for me anyway.

You will be okay!!!

I'm a big believer in all things in moderation and yes, I could eat a cheeseburger. My idea of moderation preband though, I now realise, was hardly moderation.

We're having fish and chips for dinner tonight because the kids have basketball, takeaway night still happens in our family for practical reasons. I could have battered flake and chips but I probably will get Doug and I a piece of grilled fish and make a salad at home and let the kids have the fried stuff. You just kind of stop wanting it - whenever there is a reasonable alternative, I usually choose it. If there were no other option, I'd eat the fried fish and chips kind of thing. But there is so I'll choose not to.

I'm lucky in that I dont have any real physical restrictions on what I can actually eat - I can do bread, pizza etc.

I can eat whatever I want as long as I chew it well and eat slowly; including cheesburgers. It also depends on the time of day. I can eat cheeseburgers late afternoon; I can barely have solids in the morning

I ate about 1/3 of a med. sized cheeseburger last night. I don't eat them often, because they have a lot of wasted calories, I usually try to eat more "efficiently". But DH wants burgers on occasion, as well as other things, and I just eat them, I am only able to eat a small amount in comparison to what I used to eat tho.

As has been said before....all things in moderation, has worked for me. Could I have lost more weight in less time, avoiding cheeseburgers and the like? Probably so. However, I try to look at this as a way of life...I was sick to death of dieting, so I just refuse to diet! I will likely have the occasional cheeseburger the rest of my life, same with birthday cake, and everything else---I just eat small amounts, and don't do it everyday....the really weird thing is--I don't want them everyday, who would have ever thought that could happen??

Its incredible isnt it. In the months before surgery, I was at McDonalds for lunch literally every day of the week for a while there. Now the thought makes me sick.

I hope this is the case for me one day!!!!

I could never get my head around my hubby being able to leave half of a mcdonalds meal because he was satisfied, now I know that he is in tune with his body and as soon as he is satisfied the food doesn't taste as good so he stops. I hate wasting food especially when it's takeaway and I've paid more for someone else to prepare it. This clearly has to change!

You'll be able to eat a cheeseburger again when you go to solids. I can only eat a little under a 1/2 of a McDonalds cheeseburger now. Way less than I use to.

me too! I decided when I got banded, no more junk food - ever. Losing weight taste so much better!

However, I do feel a treat here & there would be okay. But for me, I am chosing not too, I cannot handle it hear & there, I go all the way, so for me I must give it up.

My friend can eat a burger, however, she only eats 1/2 of it, she was banded 3 years ago. So as time goes on, you might be able to enjoy it every now and then. But I would wait awhile before you tried it.

Good-luck and grats on your banding!

Some people can handle the burger w/o the bun. I haven't been able to handle ANY bread since my banding 01/11/06. I also haven't had any meat. I do not crave it any more either. But anything I eat can cause pain sometimes. I PB almost at every meal. Going out is not fun. Yet I haven't lost any weight in 4 months. I havne't had a fill in 6 months. Does anyone else have this problem?

If you PB at every meal, are you getting enough calories in? If not, your body might be in starvation mode and would keep you from loosing much.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
