Cheeseburgers???

Recommended Posts

im on my third day post op, and just today saw a hamberger commercial and felt my belly grumble. its insane because im still on clear liquids, and will be for two full weeks! (three weeks total)

i added boost to the diet today. One. its high in Protein and available to the grocery store i can walk to. i felt immediately better after getting three quarters through it. Its not very big.

One day, even if its just a bite or two. im gonna have a cheesburger. even if i gotta put it in a blender, even if i gotta chew it until its Water, one day i sure enough will.

I tried adding Jello last night, i could get a few bites down but just a few minutes later.

you know what else i dream about? i used to LOVE fresh baked italian bread soaked within an inch of its life in extra virgin olive oil (the elixir of life) and balsamic vinegar. :::):::

man ill just be glad when i can eat food again.

I hope someday I have the spirit and energy about this change of life as you all do. I really admire it, and want to achieve that goal.

As of right now, I am 5 days post op, have hunger and cravings, and generally feeling sorry for myself.

That is why I have been reading as much of the posts as possible, hoping to get into the swing of things.............

Simple carbs are addictive, literally! Your bodies are going through withdrawls. Some bandsters can still eat bread or toast once they reach the sweet spot, but most cannot. You will find that when you have to chew something to goo before you can swallow it that fast food hamburger patties taste really nasty, among other foods. Bread tastes terrible when you have to chew to goo, tastes a lot like paste (flour+water=glue) What will happen is that your tastebuds will adjust to liking real whole foods that are actually good for you! It just takes time. The other day I had a dorito and ya know what? It didn't even taste like I remember it tasting, it tasted terrible. Give it time, suck on a sf fudgecicle

I was banded on 10/30/06 and I can eat a cheeseburger without a problem.... if I chew slow and eat in moderation - I have no problems with any food groups - You will get there ... be patient my friend - It gets MUCH easier!

How many cc's in your band currently? I cant take in any food for Breakfast anymore so I have a Protein Shake every morning. I also used to PB everytime I would eat so my Dr. suggested that I drink hot tea throughout the day to loosen the mucus that collects around the band. It has helped and I no longer PB.

I made the decision to give that kind of food up when I was banded. Can you ever have it again? Maybe, maybe not. Everyone is very different.

Oh Wow! Congrats on your reaching your goal. You must be so happy!

Honestly, its 14 months down the track for me and its only really happening now, but I"m amazed that I find myself in the foodcourt at the shopping centre at lunchtime, I wander around looking at everything and every time I leave hungry but without buying.

I just cant be bothered. McDonalds is poison and I dont want to eat it. Nor KFC, not that I have touched that muck since I was about 7, I dont want pizza, I dont want that awful food court chinese, I dont want Subway (oh, how I loathe subway) but nor do I want the fattening so called "healthy" options like the mile high vege lasagne and such at the healthy sandwich bars. I dont want a sandwich as they make them too big, if I buy I always end up with a salad of some description.

I actually had my first hamburger (well, 1/3 of a burger) just last week... minus the bun, minus the fries but boy was that crunchy pickle AWESOME!

I went out to Vegas with my friends a few weeks ago and I split turkey burgers with the girls as they are much easier on me than a grilled chicken sandwich (especially if I'm stressed or tired). Again, ixnay on the readbay.

i havent had my surgery quite yet, and i was wondering if someone can clarify what "cant handle" exactly means. do you get sick, or is there pain, or is it just the carbs thing? im hoping that whole not caring about crappy-for-you food thing happens, i cant even imagine. haha. what an effective incentive to stay away from bread...

Hey LeeinDe: don't worry. it gets better. Have you discovered Better Than Boullion Soup base yet? For a clear liquid, it's really hearty. the ham flavor feels like comfort food.

LizRBit: How ya doing down there is Galveston? Have you been to The Strand yet?

Well ladybug, in my case when I say I "can't handle" something, it pretty much means, it causes me pain...or is no longer worth eating to me, because of how it makes me feel.

For instance I 'can't handle' raised donuts anymore. I only tried once---but it was misery for about 15 minutes. I chewed, but as I swallowed that yeasty donut, it felt like it began growing again---and by the time I swallowed, it was 10 times bigger than it began! I slimed, and spit, and all over a stinking bite of a donut I didn't need in the first place!!!! So I said no more---they are on my very short list of "can't handles"....in fact right now they are there all alone!!! I can eat pretty much anything else I have attempted at this point. I have changed HOW I eat some things---drier meats, I make sure I have gravy, or even ketchup----something! I used to grab a chicken strip, and just eat it without thinking---now I make sure I use gravy, or ranch dressing---keep it moist. I made that mistake yesterday while shopping, I grabbed a container of popcorn chicken to eat for lunch---and was doing fine, but got busy with what I was doing, and slipped into my old inhale mode. Popped a piece in my mouth, pretended to chew, and swallowed. I remembered as it went down....and while I didn't get sick enough to slime or PB, my stomach felt sore all evening. I stuck to drinking cool liquid all night, to let it soothe itself, as opposed to eating and making it work.

I used to would never have been able to do that---just decide not to eat---it would have haunted me every minute of the evening. But now I am not hungry---eating is just what I do! So doing without was not a big deal at all. I love that---I feel so powerful! In such control!!!

You will too----find the right restriction, and you can eat most things, but only when you want to---hunger no longer will drive your every move. A freedom I never even knew existed!

Kat

I always enjoy the first 2 bites--and then, the pain! Good news is I don't want another for about 3 months.:hungry:

Same thing with donuts..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
